With everyone wanting information quicker than ever – especially the younger generation – it’s no surprise that real time communication is evolving at a rapid pace. Apps such as Snapchat, Vine, Twitter and more continue to fulfill the need for instant information gratification. Despite some critics initially considering Snapchat to be an app for teens to send inappropriate pictures, it has proved to be so much more, especially for brands.

A recent article on Mashable discusses how major brands including Taco Bell, Juicy Couture and Bloomberg Businessweek are using Snapchat to connect directly with consumers. And, with the addition of a new feature called Stories, Snapchat offers its users the ability to create 24-hour long narratives of videos and photos, providing endless marketing opportunities.

Are you interested in using Snapchat for your brand but not sure how to get started? Follow the lead of these three successful snappers:

1.    Taco Bell
As one of the earliest brands to use Snapchat, Taco Bell has used the app in a variety of ways. Whether announcing the return of popular past products or showing a group of friends heading to Taco Bell, this brand has been an active user since the beginning.

Follow their lead by… using your existing social media networks to encourage fans to follow your brand on Snapchat. Also, be sure to use the app in a variety of ways instead of continuously sending the same type of snaps.

2.    16 Handles
This frozen yogurt chain uses Snapchat to connect with its core target audience made up of a younger demographic. 16 Handles engages followers by sending snaps with coupons to customers who sent photos of them trying the frozen yogurt to “Love16Handles” on Snapchat.

Follow their lead by… offering special deals to the customers who interact with you on Snapchat. Also, make sure you connect with your customers on networks that they are already highly active on.

3.    Acura
Similar to Taco Bell and other brands, Acura used their Twitter page to introduce their Snapchat account. In addition to utilizing their existing social fan base, Acura shared a snap sneak peak of their NSX Prototype to the first 100 individuals who added the brand on Snapchat.

Follow their lead by… offering a behind-the-scenes look at your brand to those individuals who connect with you on Snapchat. Also, limit the number of individuals you share a snap with to encourage users to connect with you quickly.
